dear great que(e)ry librarians, i am a san jose state library student and intern at the bay area video coalition, working with the diversity committee of the AMIA to brainstorm worthwhile grassroots/community archives to extend a scholarship to/our cataloging services for the AMIA 2012 conference in 2012. it's in seattle this year. basically, i was wondering f you had any recommendations for media archives (pref gayy) in the seattle/oregon/northwest area that we could reach out to in the upcomin

This sounds like a great project and opportunity. We’re working on building a list of community libraries/archives and other resources at http://www.queeryparty.org/resources. Here’s what i know of in your area:

Bitch Community Lending Library (Portland, OR)

Transgender Reference Library and Circulating Collection of the Q Center/LGBT Community Center (Portland, OR)

GLBT Historical Society (San Francisco)

But we’re pretty west-coast Centered here, so if you know of anything else we should add to our list to represent your part of the country, please let us know!

We’re excited to join with WORD Bookstore and Pushcart Prize Nominee Saeed Jones in presenting his new chapbook When the Only Light is Fire. His poetry has appeared in Hayden’s Ferry Review, StorySouth, Jubilat, and many others. He is also a monthly columnist for Lambda Literary and contributing writer for Union Station Magazine, and his blog For Southern Boys Who Consider Poetry is dedicated to emerging queer poets of color.

UPDATE: We’re now collecting book donations for the Occupy Wall Street Library tomorrow at Que(e)ry V: Open Access. All books are accepted but the People’s Library especially seeks books of resistance, people’s history, economics, finance, contemporary philosophy, ecology, DIY books, non-English books, materials for low-literacy readers, and reference materials. Multiple copies are always welcome; copies of Howard Zinn’s “A People’s History of the United States” are in high demand. Or you can always bring books and supplies directly to them. Spread the word!

Que(e)ry 4: Authority Control and the Books-B-Q were a great success,
thanks to all of you who turned out to support queer archives!
Together, we raised nearly $2,000 for the Lesbian Herstory Archives
and the Tom of Finland Foundation.

A special thanks to our tireless DJs, gogo dancer, photographer, and
volunteers who sold raffle tickets, publicized the event, collected
donations, and helped decorate! And conDRAGulations to the winner of
the inaugural Librarian Realness contest, Ms. Queery Librarian, Bambi
Galore!

Of course, we couldn’t have done it without our fabulous cohosts, the
